Zagorka Dolovac, the Republic Public Prosecutor, together with the delegation of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office is on a several-day visit to the Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as the State Department.
So far in the discussions with the Assistant Attorney General who is the Head of the Criminal Division and the head of all of the federal prosecutor’s offices in the USA, prosecutor Lenny Breuer, as well as with his deputy Bruce Schwartz and Carl Alexandre as the Director of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the multimember delegation from the Attorney General’s Office, the progress of the reform of the public prosecutor’s offices in the Republic of Serbia has been discussed, as well as the adoption and implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code and the procedures in the field of criminal law and in the cases of mutual interest, which include in particular the fight against organised and serious crime, war crimes, corruption, as well as cyber-terrorism and cybercrime.
Prosecutor Breuer has emphasised plans to deepen the existing partnership between the Attorney General’s Office and the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office and he has commended the efforts of the public prosecutor’s offices of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Serbia in the fight against crime and perpetrators of criminal offences, who are aware that they will face a strong joint response of the state institutions of our two countries.
The visit will continue with the discussions between Zagorka Dolovac, the Republic Public Prosecutor, and the Assistant Secretary of State of the State Department, Mr. Tom Countryman, the delegation of that institution, as well as the other significant state authorities of the USA in charge of criminal prosecution and international cooperation.
The objective of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s visit to the USA is the continuation of direct co-operation between the prosecutor’s offices of the two countries which will contribute to more efficient criminal prosecution and the fight against transnational organised crime. It is expected in particular that this visit will be another step towards laying sound foundation for the relations between the Serbian and American prosecutor’s offices.
Co-operation in the fight against organised crime and the resolution of war crime cases are to be the key talking points at the meeting of delegations of the Serbian Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office and the representative of the U.S. judiciary.
The results of the Serbian judicial reform, co-operation with the USA and shared cases are among the topics to be discussed at the meeting – Zagorka Dolovac, the Republic Public Prosecutor said for Danas. According to her words, the visit to the USA will be another step towards laying sound foundation for the strengthening of relations between the Serbian and American prosecutor’s offices.
Dolovac pointed out that U.S. Attorney General, Lenny Breuer, as well as Carl Alexandre , the Director of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and Tom Countryman, Assistant Secretary of State of the State Department would participate in the discussions at the meeting. With regard to shared cases, Dolovac stated that she could not discuss any details. According to her statement, although there are a small number of shared cases, she sees them as extremely important.
